The first day of vacation is always so nice. Hank got the kids dressed and sent off to school, and now the two of us have an entire day ahead of us. The house is empty, quiet, and tidy, and I think we just may head out for a nice lunch (sans the whining and wailing). Nice, yes?
Although we have loads to do (laundry, pack, clean out fridge, hold mail, run to the bank etc), we are excited to just be ALONE. The TWO OF US. Just like old time's sakes. These moments are so far and few inbetween, that it's actually a luxury to be with my husband. So what I am doing typing here on the computer you say? Good question. I'm here to do a quick post.
Every day at work, I sit on quite ze fancy, vintage cushion (my bum is spoiled). Old campuses like ours are filled to the brim with vintage treasures (old photos, vintage books (so fun!), old furniture) -- sometimes when I feel naughty, I'll sneak some of them home. Like on Friday, I sneaked my cushion out the door, and now it's sitting here at my house. The cushion is just screaming to be recycled into something else, and my evil scissors are quite hungry for a new snipping task. Behold Ze Vintage Cushion:
Any suggestions?
Oh the whole month is just ripe for crafting and creating! Another venture I'd like to try is recreating some of Alison's art into a tote or bag A la Lizette Greco (link via Marieke). Wouldn't her artwork look cute on something I can tote around? Here, take a peek:
Henry's "artwork" and stuff shall NOT be replicated. EVER. In fact, let's just all forget about all that shall we?
Okay, and now onto haremail news. Miss Joleen sent me a basket "Peepin" full o' goodies. Fortunately for me, the yums made it quickly into my stomach (the bun enjoyed them too), but unfortunately for you readers, I cannot post photos o' the goodies. Cuz, I ate 'em, remember? But just so you could imagine what this basketfull of goodies was like, it included fun stuff like: Peeps (oh how I love peeps), a chocolate bunny, bubbles in a chick container, play-doh, barrettes, lip gloss (okay so I didn't eat everything.....did you really think I ate play-doh? I know I'm loopy and all, but still....), pencils, erasers......oh the list went on and on. If you can, pay sweet Joleen a visit. Her site is full of crafty goodness, and the funny thing is, she's literally a haremail hop, skip, and a jump away from me! A small world this is.
And now that I have (finally) excavatated my camera from the bowels of my craft closet, I present to you my goodies from Pinky. She's such a creative gal that one. The luggage tags are going to serve us so well on tomorrow's flight. Here, check 'em out:
And last, but not least, you can check out my updated Cyber Shower Album complete with goodies sent from Miss Yvonne. Take a peek, won't ya?
Well, folks, my tummy's rumblin'....the kids are gone. I think it's time Hank and I take a lunch break. Chinese sounds good right about now.
Have fun. Enjoy your vacation. Maybe I missed it, where are you going? Anyway, take lots of pictures and take care!

Leslie, I hope you and Hank enjoyed a wonderful afternoon together. =) And! I'm checking Yvonne's goodies out in a mo. She is like a queen of giftgiving. And! That vintage cushion fabric is lovely! Perhaps a totebag/craftbag? Little patches for various doodads around and about?!
I hope to be seeing you SOON!! Take good care!

yes yes yes - turn the artwork into bags!!! And cushions!! And how about an apron dress? and, and, and....I can think of a zillion things to do :) Hank is a deconstructivist artist - kind of an installation artist if you like. At least he chose a nice colour for the couch piece.

I love Allie's artwork, I've been working on the same thing since being inspired by Marieke and Lizette Greco. That cushion is great too, I think it looks like a carpetbag style tote to me. I hope you have a great vacation, you deserve it!

What a great high spirited post! But those scissors are scary!
I think you should do a lizeete grco with Alis drawings, I love how she does that.

Your Henry stories always crack me up! I love the idea of using Alison's drawings on a tote bag...you got me browsing through Lizette's photos...there's one of her kids dressed as Princess Lea and Luke Skywalker that was so genius!
I peeked in on Yvonne's shower goodies too, what lovelies!! :)

ooh so much goodness! First of all, enjoy your vacation!! Now- that cushion fabric is fabulous! :D You should make a pretty purse (I'm a purse girl). Don't you just love Lizette's 'stuff'?! :D It's so innovative! I like the skirt she made. I think a skirt would be nice to make with Alison's beautiful drawings.. or of course a tote bag! :) Again, so glad you liked your goodies! As did I! :D I still have to post pictures but since vacation I have literally worked every day. Yikes! Love Pinky's stuff too! :D And what fun and colorful baby goodness Yvonne sent you! :D Okay now go have a great time!!

It is so cool to be able to spend time alone, when the kids are usually always just THERE...unfortunately, on our trip, we actually shared a room with the kids most of the time...so, not so romantic.

Have a fun trip to be Leslie and say HI! to Giao and David if you get to meet them. I love that piece of fabric and I think you should really turn your kids art into fun bags - a girl never can own enough bags ;o) And a big YAY! for goodies - we're so lucky - it's always Christmas.

Have a very fun trip! I hope you get to see Giao and David...they are so much fun to be around. Love the cushion and I think it's a wonderful idea to turn your daughter's artwork into prints for cute handbag.
